Arnaud on a high

14th February 2017

Arnaud Djoum wants to use Africa Cup of Nations win as confidence boost ahead of Hibs replay.

Arnaud Djoum returned to Hearts this week as a champion of Africa, and revealed he was desperate to return to Tynecastle to boost the Jambos’ Scottish Cup bid.

Edinburgh rivals Hearts and Hibs will go at it once more in 8 days time after Sunday’s match ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

After the game, the Cameroon star explained his unique build-up to the match as he returned to Edinburgh in time to play.

“I got back on Thursday, so I only had a few days to get ready,” he explained. “It’s quite a short time, but I had a lot of energy after winning the trophy.

“I feel very confident right now, and because of this I wanted to get back to Hearts.

“We had two days of celebration in Cameroon, but I knew I had to return, I have a contract with Hearts and that is where I need to play.”

Upon his return, Arnaud met some new faces, as the club had made nine signings in his absence.

Applauding Ian Cathro’s recruitment, Djoum admitted he would need some time on the training field to get used to their new style of play.

“We have a lot of new players, and I need to get some training sessions with them so I understand how they play.

“We can use this time to get used to things and go into the next match with more confidence. The pitch wasn’t good for us today.

“We are confident in our ability and we know we can go to their ground and win.”
