Hearts Women grabbed their first SWPL1 victory of the season last weekend, and they welcome 14-in-a-row champions Glasgow City to Oriam this Sunday.
Teenage striker Amelie Birse grabbed her first goals for the club in the 3-2 win over Aberdeen, and she’s looking forward to the challenge of facing Scottish women’s football’s most successful side.
It’ll be a tough afternoon against a side that won their last game 9-0 and Amelie is under no illusions of the challenge the Gorgie Girls will face.
“We know how good a team Glasgow City is. When we do analysis, we’ll need to study the goals we’ve been losing because we know we’re going to be under pressure for 90% of the game. Who knows, we might only get one chance to score so we need to make sure it doesn’t count for anything if we’ve already conceded 5 at that point.
“Glasgow City annihilated Spartans last weekend, and Spartans gave us a really tough game, so that should lock everyone into concentration. If we don’t set up and play properly then we know it could be a difficult afternoon.
“But it’s also a great opportunity for us to test ourselves against the best, and see where we are. These are the games you want to play. The most important thing for us this season is to help us stay up, first and foremost, by scoring goals and helping the team and seeing what we can build from there.”
