Alex Cochrane says Hearts will keep on pushing forward, as the JTs prepare themselves for a return to league action against St. Johnstone
Hearts are back on cinch Premiership duty at McDiarmid Park on Saturday, looking for three points and the chance to further extend their ten-point lead in third.
With positives and negatives to take since returning from the winter break, Alex reckons that a full week’s preparation after a hectic diet of midweek games can help a rejuvenated Hearts to replicate their sparkling league form from earlier in the campaign.
“Yeah, it’s been quite a tough run," he told the media ahead of the game. "There was a lot of games in a short space of time. At the end of the day, we’ve gone ten points clear and gotten through to the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup which is what we wanted to do.
“Performances maybe haven’t been as good as we’d like but we’re still looking good and now we’ll try and kick on and keep moving forward.
“It’s been nice, refreshing actually to have a full week. The boys had a few days off and I think we all enjoyed that as well. We’ve had time to work on some things on the training pitch that we needed to. We’re now just focusing on a big game on Saturday.”
Standards have been set, and Alex insists that the boys in maroon aren’t about to let things slip at this crucial stage of the campaign.
“We feel like we’ve earned the right to be in the position that we are in the league. We did really well at the start, and now we know that we’ve got the squad that can compete in both the cup and the league,” he added.
“We have to keep the standards up for the rest of the season. We as a group of players know that and it’s critical that we keep on pushing right until the end. I think if we can get back to doing the basics well, we’ll be alright. When you have games so frequently, you can sometimes go off the boil.
“We need to focus on getting back to winning ways and that starts on Saturday.”
