Interim Head Coach Jon Daly admitted it was a tough afternoon for the Jambos at Celtic Park on Saturday as they suffered a 4-1 defeat to Celtic.
Leigh Griffiths opened the scoring for the hosts on 29 minutes, with the Jambos having looked fairly solid up until that point. Scott Sinclair doubled the hosts’ lead six minutes after the restart before Griffiths and McGregor wrapped up the scoring.
Substitute Isma Goncalves then grabbed a consolation goal for the Gorgie side six minutes from time. Speaking to the press post-match, Jon Daly said:
“It was a difficult afternoon. I thought the structure of the team was quite good but the first goal is obviously an error on our part, we should probably have let Griffiths run offside.
“Overall I think we got punished for a couple of mistakes. You come to places like this and you know you’re going to need to have a day where Celtic miss chances and you take yours, but unfortunately we made a couple of mistakes that cost us.
“I can’t fault the boys’ effort, however, as they never stopped going even at 4-0 down. The fact they dug in and kept fighting is important.”
Hearts will now look to bounce back from their opening day defeat at Rugby Park next Saturday when they take on Kilmarnock in a 3pm kick-off.
