Heart of Midlothian 1-2 Hibernian
Saturday 6th April 2019, KO 12:30 | Ladbrokes Premiership | Tynecastle Park
Hearts slipped to defeat at Tynecastle as an action-packed Edinburgh Derby was won by Hibs.
Peter Haring gave the home side the lead after 24 minutes but Hearts were pegged back soon after by Daryl Horgan’s equaliser.
Horgan won the game for the away side in the second half after a slick bit of play saw him finish from the edge of the area.
Craig Levein made five changes to the side that lost 3-0 to Rangers on Wednesday, with Michael Smith returning to the side after two months out.
Uche Ikpeazu recovered from concussion to lead the line, while there was a first league start for Bobby Burns at left-back, along with returns for Olly Lee and Jake Mulraney.
Mulraney looked bright early on for Hearts as he broke the offside trap to get in behind the Hibs defence, but his dangerous ball across was cleared for a corner.
Ikpeazu then powered down the right side and crossed the ball for Mulraney who attempted an overhead kick, but his attempt was weak and saved.
After Sean Clare was fouled, Lee then hit the post with a curling free-kick as Hearts ramped up the pressure. Mulraney was played in behind again, and his shot rebounded back to him off Ofir Marciano, before the keeper saved the rebound too.
The goal was coming and duly arrived from the head of Haring. Lee’s in-swinging corner was met by a towering header from the Austrian midfielder and sent Tynecastle into raptures, but the joy didn’t last long.
Four minutes later and against the run of play, Hibs equalised. Marc McNulty ran onto a ball down the channel and his cutback was fired home by Horgan.
It stayed level until half-time but it was Hibs who would get out the blocks quickest.
After a slick bit of play from Hibs, the ball was fed into Horgan who had drifted in off the right wing and he curled a shot into the bottom left hand corner past Bobby Zlamal.
Hearts attempted to respond and a nice break from Clare saw Smith fed the ball on the right, but his cutback was fired over by Mulraney.
Ikpeazu was then sent in behind after a through ball, but his lofted effort was put out by Marciano as Hearts tried to fight their way back into the game, having brought on Aidan Keena and Callumn Morrison by this point.
Stevie Mallan then came close for Hibs as he attempted an audacious effort from 35 yards which was destined for the top corner, but Zlamal flew to his left to palm the ball out to safety.
As the clock ticked on, Hearts missed arguably their best chance to level the scores. Burns again came forward and put a deep cross into the back post area, but the ball was blazed over the bar by Djoum.
