Hibernian 0-2 Heart of Midlothian
Monday 1st October 2018, KO 13:30 | League | Oriam
Hearts’ reserve side made it back-to-back wins over Hibs with a 2-0 victory at Oriam this afternoon.
Two stunning set pieces from Oliver Bozanic and Ben Garuccio bagged all three points in the Reserve League derby, though it could’ve been a bigger scoreline had Andy Kirk’s side not passed up a couple of golden chances.
The hosts were first to threaten inside two minutes after Cammy Logan fouled Jamie Gullan at the edge of the box. The Hibs man took the free-kick himself but fired it straight at Colin Doyle.
Two minutes later a cross-field pass found Innes Murray, who cut inside but dragged his effort well wide of the target.
Hearts began to get to grips with the game and were camped out in the Hibs half. A quick thrown in found Danny Amankwaa, who middled it to Bozanic but he could only curl one into the arms of Ofir Marciano.
A superb last-ditch block by Clevid Dikamona kept Hibs at bay, though the home side rarely threatened as the half progressed.
The Jambos took the lead with two minutes of the half remaining. Craig Wighton was tripped from behind as he raced into the box, and Bozanic stepped up to curl a wonderful effort around the wall and into the corner of the net.
Five minutes into the restart it was 2-0. Alex Petkov was bundled over 25-yards out from goal, and this time Garuccio ran up and swerved an unstoppable effort past Marciano to double Hearts’ lead.
Hibs responded immediately and nearly pulled one back. Fraser Murray’s corner was met by Josh Campbell but he couldn’t steer his header on target.
A Sean Mackie free-kick flew inches over the bar, as did a Garuccio effort – with the outside of his left-boot - up the other end.
Substitute Dario Zanatta was next to go close, heading over from Logan’s cross, then Campbell came to Hibs’ rescue by clearing Wighton’s low shot off the line after he had been slipped through by Garuccio.
Wighton was provider again, this time flicking a cross into the box for substitute Euan Henderson but he could only head straight at Marciano.
Another Wighton cross found Zanatta, though his half-volley was deflected behind.
Hibs nearly halved the deficit with five minutes remaining. Lewis squared the ball at the edge of the box to Gullan but he shot inches wide of Doyle’s left-hand post.
Hearts were denied a third by the legs of Marciano after Bozanic sent Wighton through, but his effort was blocked by the Hibs ‘keeper.
There was still time for a couple more chances as the game headed into injury time; first, Amankwaa played Wighton down the right but he could only fire into the side netting. Then, Shaw went one-on-one with Doyle but the big Hearts ‘keeper pulled off a great block to ensure the Jambos would win the game 2-0.
