Hamilton Academical 0-0 Heart of Midlothian
Monday 29th April 2019, KO 14:00 | League | New Douglas Park
Hearts and Hamilton battled to a goalless draw at New Douglas Park on the final day of the SPFL Reserve League season.
Both sides were unable to create many clear-cut chances and it turned into a battle of attrition towards the end, with Andy Kirk's side finishing strongly.
Hamilton started on the front foot and had the majority of the chances in the first-half as Hearts failed to get out of first gear.
The biggest chance of the first half came in the 15th minute when George Stanger - son of Scotland rugby legend Tony - picked out first-team regular Steven Boyd at the back-post and he volleyed towards goal, but Kelby Mason was able to tip up onto the crossbar before Alex Petkov cleared.
Stanger then had a chance of his own ten minutes later, connecting with a corner but he planted his header straight at Mason.
Hearts had one or two half-chances, the best of them almost falling to Euan Henderson after a great cross from Lewis Moore, but the young attacker couldn't get a foot to it.
There was little sign of change in the second-half. Again, Hamilton had the better of the early chances but it was Hearts who would have the ball in the back of the net first.
From a free-kick in midfield, the Jambos shifted it right to Jamie Brandon and the full-back swung in an inviting cross. David Vanecek guided a header into the far-post... but the flag was up for offside.
Hamilton then missed their best chance to go ahead. Substitute Hamish Morrison tore down the right and fired in a low cross, but Boyd could only curl his close-range shot wide of the post.
Both sides were lacking a clinical edge - and that was evident when Hearts missed a great chance. Brandon showed great pace to cut the ball back to Craig Wighton. The former Dundee man swivelled onto his left but could only curl it past the post.
With the clock running down Hearts started to press and Petkov saw a header cleared off the line, Dario Zanatta saw a shot blocked and Wighton was denied by a fantastic save but ultimately, the Jambos could not make the breakthrough and the game finished goalless.
