Match Report

A youthful Hearts reserve side were held to a goalless draw by Ross County in a phsyical affair at the Oriam.

The Jambos were forced to use their only outfield sub early on when Leeroy Makovora went down with an injury and youngster Jay Charleston-King was brought on.

It meant that their only remaining substitute was Kevin Silva - and he was stripped as an outfield player. The natural goalkeeper was almost introduced to the action in the first-half when Jay Sandison went down, but the defender soldiered on.

Hearts only real opportunities came through set pieces but even then, Malaury Martin and Connor Smith could only hit tame efforts into the wall instead of troubling the goalkeeper.

However, County 'keeper Tommy Dixon-Hodge was forced into one good save in the first-half, denying Connor Smith - Hearts' main attacking threat. Cammy Logan made a fantastic run down the right and cut back to the unmarked Smith but he could only hit his shot straight at Dixon-Hodge.

Hearts' final chance of the first-half fell to Charleston-King. Smith turned creator and found the substitute with a narrow cut-back but the striker could only drive over the bar.

The second-half produced little in quality but plenty of phsyical battles and yellow cards. Again, Hearts had chances from the set piece but couldn't produce any effort of note.

The closest they came was through skipper Chris Hamilton, who scored earlier in the week against Kilmarnock. Alex Petkov knocked a header down to his centre-half colleague and Hamilton managed to back-heel it, but the ball ended up going just wide.
