Scottish FA Coach Education Courses

If you are interested in becoming a football coach, or you are an existing coach wishing to further your coach education knowledge, then the Scottish FA has a course for you.

In partnership with the governing body, Hearts delivers Children’s and Youth/Main pathway coach education courses. No matter what level of the game you are involved at, we can help you improve your knowledge and share best practice.

Children's Pathway Overview

Introduction to Coaching / level 1.1 / 6 hours / £50

The Level 1.1 Introduction to Coaching course aims to develop a basic understanding of;
- The Scottish FA coach education pathway and the coach’s learning journey.
- Effective communication and player interaction to develop effective delivery.
- The fundamental principles of a games-based approach to player development.
- The role of the coach within the Coaching Process.
- How to solve some common problems faced by the coach.

Content delivered on the course;
- Theory (Introduction to Coaching, Benefits of a Games Based Approach & Challenges of the Coach)
- Practical (Introductory Activities, 4v4 Games, Challenge Games, Training Games)

 

Children’s Coaching Certificate / level 1.2 / 12 hours / £70

The 1.2 Children’s Coaching Certificate aims to develop a basic understanding of;
- The individual session components and how they can be structured.
- How to select your practices so that the session flows from start to finish.
- How to adapt your practices to help your players achieve success.
- Your coaching position and how it can influence your delivery.
- The importance of demonstration.
- Coaching interventions – how to communicate with your players.
- How to create a positive learning environment at training / match days.
- A basic understanding of practices that will help develop a creative player.

 

Children’s Coaching Award / level 1.3 / 12 hours / £70

The Level 1.3 Children’s Coaching Award aims to develop a basic understanding of;
- The ‘Principles of Play’ for both attacking and defending and how these can be coached in all scenarios.
- Selecting the appropriate practices and how to adapt those practices (if required) to achieve success.
- Coaching interventions – progress your understanding of how/when to coach the players.
- Delivering an effective pre / during / post game team talk.
- What is acceptable touchline behaviour and how it can influence the players in a positive manner. 

 

Main Pathway Overview 

Introduction to Coaching / level 1.1 / 6 hours / £50

The Level 1.1 Introduction to Coaching course aims to develop a basic understanding of;
- The Scottish FA coach education pathway and the coach’s learning journey.
- Effective communication and player interaction to develop effective delivery.

Youth & Adult Coaching Certificate / level 1.2 / 12 hours / £70

Youth & Adult Coaching Award / level 1.3 / 12 hours / £70

The 1.3 Youth & Adult Coaching Award aims to develop a basic understanding of:
- The ‘Principles of Play’ for both attacking and defending and how these can be coached in each third of the pitch.
- Selecting appropriate practices and how to adapt those practices (if required) to achieve success.
- Coaching interventions – progress your understanding of how/when to coach the players.
