Hunter pens Hearts extension
09 May 2024Hearts Women is delighted to announce that skipper Georgia Hunter has signed a new contract to remain at the club until 2026.
Georgia has been a terrific servant to the club, having been with the Jambos for the previous ten seasons, joining when she was just 12 years old.
She has been on the complete Hearts Women journey, culminating in leading the women in maroon out at Hampden in the recent Scottish Cup semi-final victory over Spartans.
Sadly, Georgia picked up an ACL injury at the beginning of the month, so will unfortunately miss Hearts Women’s first ever Scottish Cup final, however we’re sure that given the progress of the team in recent years, many more finals will be on the horizon in the future.
Speaking to the Official Hearts Website, manager Eva Olid said:
“It is great news that Geo has agreed to stay at the club. She has improved so much since my first season at the club and that is all do to with her professional mindset and hard work.
“It’s hard to believe she was an amateur player just two seasons ago. She has had a recent setback with an injury, but she is such a strong character and is ready for everything that comes her way. I’m looking forward to continuing working with her.
Women’s Head of Recruitment, Sean Burt added:
“First of all, I’m delighted to have Geo tied down to a new contract, as she has been phenomenal this season. The improvement in her own game, along with the progression of the team has been fantastic to see.
“In two seasons of the club transitioning, there has been a lot of turnover of players, but nobody has been able to take Geo’s place in the middle of the defence. That is a testament to her character and how much she has developed as a player.
“As a club, we’re of course devastated about the scan results on her recent injury, especially with the cup final on the horizon, but she has a great personality, and we know she will return to us stronger and more determined than ever to succeed.”
Congratulations, Geo!
