SFA Coach Education Courses

If you are interested in becoming a football coach, or you are an existing coach wishing to further your coach education knowledge, then the Scottish FA has a course for you.

In partnership with the governing body, Hearts delivers children’s and main pathway coach education courses. No matter what level of the game you are involved at, we can help you improve your knowledge and share best practice.

Scottish FA Coach Education Pathway

The Scottish FA Coach Education pathway has been restructured since 2013 following an accreditation process with UEFA.  The most obvious change is the merging of what previously were the “Youth” and “Adult” pathways, into one main structure.  This new main structure covers ages 13 and over.  What was the Level 4 Youth Award now becomes the C Licence (those with a Youth Award are now eligible to able to attend the B licence).

Coach Education Cards (similar to a credit card) will replace certificates in all bar physical preparation courses. These cards will have the coach’s details, their most recent qualification and unique Coach ID number.

Feedback from previous sessions:

“……a big thank you for yesterday's course despite the awful weather. My head was buzzing all night with the different drills and skills sessions that you showed us. It's always a little concerning when you go to another area on a course and don't know the guys who are providing the input but I must say that both yourself and Keith were first class. You both have real enthusiasm for what you do and that shines through and certainly rubbed off on me. I wouldn't hesitate to book another course with you guys if the situation arose. “

A. Davie, Kirrie Thistle Youths

“I was so impressed with the course last week. It gave me more knowledge and confidence with the kids when I went back to training afterwards. The course was very well organised, fun, and of course the coaches made it with their superb expertise, and humour. I must admit, I was slightly worried when I saw the drills and the amount of participation that we had to endure, but, I thoroughly enjoyed all the drills and games that the coaches had us all doing. Great fun! Can't wait to get my other badges now! “

G. Rankin

“Just a quick note to say thanks for yesterday. We all really enjoyed it and took loads out of it. Doing the session in front of everyone really makes you think about it and we had all spent ages planning it. We really enjoyed how you explained all the drills, bringing them to life in game situations in a way kids (and adults) could understand. We train at Pinkie on Wed and Friday early evenings…. if you ever fancied being a guest coach either of you, we and the kids would be over the moon to have you take a session.”

S. Glasgows

“I just wanted to drop you a line to say thanks for running a great course yesterday. I have to say that early yesterday morning the prospect of spending 6 hours of my Sunday learning about coaching wasn't too enticing. But you and Alan made it a fun day as well as a good opportunity to learn. If you can keep nearly 50 adults enthused for 6 hours then surely we ought to be able to manage 90 minutes with our kids!”

E. Gilchrist

“Just wanted to say a big thank you to yourself and all the guys for what was an immensely informative and enjoyable course over the last two weekends. Loads of great ideas and plenty of " gold dust" to take away to our own sessions in the future. Feedback was fair constructive and full of useful tips. Please pass on my thanks to all the team.”
