The Hearts Legends team is made up of a number of former players from various eras who still have a zest and passion for playing the game.
The team have already played in a large number of charity, benefit and challenge matches in recent times against teams which include Clydesdale Bank, Newcraighall Leith Victoria, RBS, Scottish Gas, Students Awards Association Scotland, Sky, Heineken and AEGON. These games have taken place at a variety of venues including local communities, Hearts Football Academy and of course Tynecastle Stadium.
Since 2008 the team has helped raise £110,000 for local groups and charities including CHAS, CCLASP, Marie Curie, Sick Kids and Teenage Cancer Support.
The team is made up of predominantly ex-Hearts players but depending on availability can also involve players who have represented other professional clubs. Individuals who have been involved in recent times include;
John Robertson, Gary Mackay, Henry Smith, Jimmy Sandison, Scott Crabbe, Jose Quitongo, Colin Cameron, Jim Hamilton, Neil Irvine, Alan McLaren, Alan Lawrence, David Murie, Ian Ferguson, Gary Sutherland, Juanjo, Mark Bradley, Willie Jamieson, Lee Makel, Alan Lawrence, Scott Severin and Gary Locke.
The team is open to invitations to play against teams, clubs, or groups who wish to test their ability against our seasoned professionals. We ask is that the game is for players over 35 and played for the benefit of a charity, or a children's/youth/community group and our own community football programmes . Any groups interested in playing the Hearts Legends are requested to raise funds prior to the match with the final amount being split 50/50 between our community projects and a cause chosen by the organising team.
If you have a team or would like to organise a squad to play against the Hearts Legends please contact Alan White at email@example.com for more information and details.
The Hearts Legends are taking invitations to play 5-a-side challenge matches. This has been put in place for groups who may not be able to organise an 11-a-side team and requires only low level fundraising.
If you can raise a team of players over 35 years of age that would like to both raise funds for our community football department and take on former professional players in one hour of frantic 5-a-sides, please contact Alan White firstname.lastname@example.org
The advantages of organising a 5-a-side game against the former players are;
