Captain Christophe Berra was a notable absentee from the Hearts squad which was due to fly to Belfast today for tonight's pre-season friendly against Glentoran, the centre-half ruled out with an ankle injury.

The Scotland cap twisted his ankle in training on Friday and has stayed behind to receive treatment from the club's physiotherapy staff at the Football Academy at Riccarton.

The injury isn't anything significant, although it was decided he should remain in Edinburgh for treatment rather than travel to Northern Ireland just to watch the match at The Oval, which will be new manager Csaba Laszlo's first game in charge following his appointment on Friday.

At stake tonight is the Umbro Trophy, with several hundred Hearts supporters expected to attend the game.

Christophe, whose place in the 18-man squad was taken by Christos Karipidis, should be fit for Hearts' friendly against Dunfermline Athletic at East End Park on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, technical problems with the aircraft meant a two-hour delay for the Tynecastle side this morning.

The Jambos were scheduled to take off at 10.30am but that was put back to 12.30pm after the problem with the FlyBe plane was detected.
