A tall and strong left-back or wing-back, Matthew comes from Langwarrin near Melbourne and is a former Australian Youth international who played at the U17 World Cup Finals in 2005.

Matthew was signed in February 2006 from the Victoria Premier League club, Frankston Pines, and he has also played youth football for Frankston Strikers, Bulleen, Berwick City and the Victorian Institute of Sport.

Matthew appeared in the Scottish Youth Cup Final against Celtic in 2006 and was on the bench for the UEFA Cup match against Sparta Prague in September that year.

Although he has yet to make his competitive debut, Matthew regularly features on the bench and in May 2009 he signed a new three-year contract. Sadly, in December 2009, Matthew required surgery on a serious cruciate injury sustained in a bounce game against Kilmarnock at Riccarton and is working his way back to fitness.
