A strong and assertive central defensive midfielder, who came through the club's own youth development system and signed a full professional contract in July 2006.

The former captain of Hearts' U19 team started to feature in the senior squad last season and Jonathan made his competitive debut as a substitute against Celtic in May 2009. That month, the Scottish U17 internationalist from Loanhead, signed a new three-year contract. Jonathan is looking for a breakthrough this season and made his first appearance as a substitute against Hamilton in September.
