A hard-working and assertive ball winner, Ian was once with Hearts Boys Club. However, he was signed by Inverness Caledonian Thistle in July 2004 after a spell with Blackburn Rovers where he had been a trainee professional.
The tough midfielder quickly made the breakthrough and in 2005-06 he became a dominant force in the team and also earned the first of two B international caps. Ian scored 8 goals in nearly 150 competitive games for the Highland club before signing a three-year contract with Hearts in June 2009.
His father also played for Hearts and being a life-long supporter, he will give nothing less than 100%. This was proved when Ian started to receive more game-time under Jim Jefferies.
