Eggert Jonsson

Born: 18 August 1988

Height: 188cm.

Signed: July 2005 from KF Fjardabyggdar

Debut: 20 September 2006

Honours: U17, U19 and U21 International

A strong and purposeful ball-winner who has stepped-up from Iceland's U21 side to the full international team and earned his fourth cap in June 2009, against Macedonia.

Last season, Eggert also became a key man in the Hearts senior squad, providing important cover at full-back, centre-half and across the midfield.

The tenacious Icelander joined Hearts in July 2005 from the Second Division side KF Fjardabyggdar based in his home town of Eskifjordur.

Eggert then made his debut in September 2006 against Alloa Athletic in the League Cup and became established in the senior squad during season 2007-08.

He has fully recovered from the stomach muscle injury that kept him out for almost two months at the start of the current season and has produced a number of excellent performances since the turn of the year. He scored with a stunning overhead kick to clinch victory over Aberdeen at Pittodrie on March 7.
