A fast and creative winger or striker, David joined Stenhousemuir in August 2005 after Aberdeen did not pursue an earlier option.

The Glaswegian attacker was a scoring sensation and in July 2006 he earned a trial with Newcastle United as well as international honours up to U19 level.

In January 2007, David moved to Hearts for an initial fee of £30,000 and he has physically benefited from full-time training and also a spell on loan to Raith Rovers from January to May 2008.

David made a positive impact on his debut at Aberdeen in May 2009 but missed the first half of last season, after a broken bone in his foot. He returned to the team at the end of December 2009 and scored his first goal for Hearts in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League match against Hamilton on 21 February 2010.

David signed a new three-year contract in March 2010 and his impressive form at the start of the 2010-11 season saw him called up to the Scotland U21 squad for the first time and he made his debut from the bench against Iceland in Reykjavik in the first leg of the European Championship play-off in October.
