Signed on a pre-contract agreement in January 2010, Darren arrived at Tynecastle in June ready to kick-off his Hearts career.

He is a versatile and consistent performer, being powerful in the air and strong in the tackle. Accordingly, Darren is a fine centre-half or full-back who also has leadership skills and was previously captain of Falkirk.

He was born in Glasgow and after graduating from the Falkirk FC Academy, Darren signed a full professional contract in July 2002. He made his competitive debut in March 2004 but then spent most of 2005-06 on loan to Forfar Athletic.

The following season he established his place in the Falkirk team and went on to make nearly 175 appearances. Darren helped Falkirk to reach the Scottish Cup Final in May 2009 but sadly his final season with the Bairns ended in relegation.

Darren played for Scotland B against Finland in February 2007 and earned his first full international cap against Northern Ireland in August 2008.

Figured prominently during pre-season and will no doubt play an important role during the current campaign.
