Doc calls it a day
Long-serving Doctor Dewar Melvin has retired after 32 years of service to Heart of Midlothian Football Club.
Affectionately known as 'Doc', he first came to Tyencastle in the summer of 1980 with the team under the stewardship of Bobby Moncur.
He officially called it a day at the end of last month, first team coach Gary Locke making a special presentation to mark the occasion.
Looking back over his time in Gorgie, he told Hearts News: "Leaving the club was a bit of wrench. After joining back in 1980, I never thought for a minute I would still be here after so many years!
"I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Hearts, especially all the people I met. There have obviously been many changes since my early days - looking back it's remarkable what myself and Alan Rae, who was the physiotherapist at the time, had to work with."
Doc Melvin, who is also a former police surgeon with Lothian and Borders and ex-medical officer for the Murrayfield Racers ice hockey team, added: "The presentation on the park was a nice touch and the warm reception from the supporters was lovely to hear.
"I wasn't sure what was going to happen but it was nice a gesture from the club."
On HeartsTV today, Gary Locke and Gordon Smitth meet the media ahead of tomorrow's William Hill Scottish Cup replay at St Johnstone.
