Gordon Smith is bracing himself for a St Johnstone backlash in tomorrow's William Hill Scottish Cup fifth-round replay.

The Perth Saints crashed to a surprisingly heavy defeat to Dundee United at the weekend, the Tannadice outfit romping to a 5-1 triumph over their hosts.

With tomorrow night's visit to McDiarmid Park looming large on the horizon, striker Gordon Smith reckons Steve Lomas' side will be out to make amends for the disappointment in the league.

"When one of the Old Firm goes out there's always a bit of an extra buzz and we really want to win the cup this season," he said.

"But tomorrow is going to be tough. Saturday was a bad result for them and they'll be looking to bounce back."

The front man came off the bench at Rugby Park on Saturday after recovering from illness earlier in the week.

He is delighted to be in the manager's plans and hopes further opportunities will arise providing he keeps knuckling down in training.

"The gaffer has said just to keep working hard in training and I'll get a chance," he added.

On HeartsTV today, Gary Locke and Gordon Smith meet the media ahead of William Hill Scottish Cup replay in Perth.
