Paulo: We dug deep
Hearts boss Paulo Sergio was pleased with the character his team showed in rescuing a point from today's bruising encounter with Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.
An injury-time equaliser from Suso Santana saw the Jambos claim a deserved draw in a game which saw both teams end the contest with ten men after Dieter van Tornhout and Jamie Hamill both received two yellow cards each.
"To come back is great. We shared the first fifteen minutes and then after that it was only Hearts on the pitch. I give credit to Kilmarnock because normally they keep possession but today they didn't. We had all the ball and all that was missing was finesse and composure in the final third of the pitch. We had a hard game on Wednesday and the pitch was awful today. It's easier for the team who don't have the ball on a pitch like that but the point was more than deserved."
Paulo was reluctant to comment on the red card decisions made by referee Euan Norris, simply offering that "the first yellow card was in the first minute, but I don't want to criticise the officials, they did a great job and they are young so they don't deserve criticism."
"The tackle on Jamie was so hard and he ends up being booked so I don't think that is fair. The second yellow for the Kilmarnock player was something I wasn't focused on, I was talking with my assistant so I have nothing to offer on that".
Finally, the focus will be on the spat between Paulo and Kilmarnock boss Kenny Shiels after their verbal back-and-forth this week; however, the Gorgie gaffer did not want to be drawn on the issue any further, saying: "I don't have any words to say to him or on the matter. I want my team in the papers, not me. You must respect other people in the game, but I am sad about this. I didn't come to Scotland to get involved in things like this."
