Paulo: A Very Happy Christmas
Delighted Hearts boss Paulo Sergio praised the manner of his team's victory today against high-flying Motherwell in the Clydesdale Bank Premier league.
Goals from Ian Black and Stephen Elliott sent the Tynecastle faithful home full of Christmas cheer as the Jambos followed up their rout of Dunfermline last week with another clean sheet and a display full of defensive discipline and attacking verve.
With the Steelmen performing magnificently well this season, particularly away from home, Paulo was thrilled with the way the team performed, saying: "It is a great victory, Motherwell are a very good team and to play like this was excellent. I think it was a tough game but we were tactically perfect today, with a great attitude and we used the ball perfectly.
"We knew Motherwell would punish us for mistakes, so today we made no mistakes and we had no troubles. The players were very focused and I am very happy with them. It's a victory for the players, they deserve this and I am so happy for them today."
Stephen Elliott netted for the second week running and Paulo was keen to stress that there is more to come from the Irish international, adding: "He's going to score more goals. He has that capacity but even when he doesn't he offers a lot to the team with his work ethic and his discipline. The understanding he shows, positionally, is something he does very well."
Jamie Hamill was stretchered off mid-way through the second half and appeared to be in some distress. Paulo provided an update on the ex-Killie man's condition: "Jamie is a champion. He's been fighting on with an ankle condition to play and he's making a big effort for us. I love players with his character. With his strength and desire, he'll return soon. It doesn't look very serious and I hope he'll be fine."
