Wolves pounce on Eggert
Hearts star Eggert Jonsson today agreed a dream move to the Barclays Premier League.
Wolverhampton Wanderers have swooped for the Icelandic international, who has penned a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Midlands outfit.
Molineux boss Mick McCarthy is a big admirer of the 23-year-old and having had him watched regularly over the past couple of seasons, has had a bid accepted to take him south of the Border.
Eggert watched Wolves take on Norwich last night and after returning to Edinburgh for Christmas, will head back south to join up with his new team-mates.
After breaking into the first team at Tynecastle in September 2006, he went on to use his versatility to establish himself as a key member of the Jambos squad, playing over 150 games for the club.
Eggert's last goal for the club was his dramatic headed winner against Inverness Caledonian Thistle in November.
With his contract due to expire in the summer, he has taken the opportunity to take the next step in his career and he moves with the best wishes of Hearts.
There will be a familiar face waiting to greet him at Molineux, of course, with former Hearts captain Christophe Berra now a first team regular at Wolves.
A club spokesperson said: "Eggert has been good for Hearts and we would like to think the club has been good for him.
"This is a chance for him to take a major step up in his career and we wish him all the best for the future.
"He came through our academy and has been a great role model for the younger players at the club. His professionalism during his time here has been exemplary and we are delighted at the progress he made.
"Christophe Berra has done well since moving to Wolves from Hearts and we hope Eggert has the same impact in England."
