New Wolves signing Eggert Jonsson today admitted it was a wrench to leave Hearts - but believes the time was right to say farewell to the club which helped establish him as an international footballer.

The 23-year-old, who was out of contract at Tynecastle in the summer, officially joins the Midlands outfit on January 1 after moving to Gorgie in the summer of 2005.

"I've been in Scotland for a long time and feel ready to take the next step," said the Icelander, who has been capped a dozen times for his country.

"I've been at Hearts for number of years and have got a lot of friends there so it is sad to be leaving them behind but I've enjoyed my time there.

"Wolves is a great club for me to do that so hopefully I can get in to the team and keep improving."

Eggert admitted former Hearts team-mate Christophe Berra was one of the first people he consulted about moving to Molineux.

"I spoke to Christophe when I first arrived at Wolves and asked him about the club," he said.

"We played together for three years at Hearts and he's a good mate of mine. I'm glad to team up with him again.

"I've met the manager and I liked the way he came across. He seems to be doing things the right way and hopefully I will help him and he will help me here. I'm really looking forward to working with him, getting in to training and then fighting to get in the team.

"I've also played a fair few internationals and hopefully I can bring my best form to Wolves and keep improving."

On HeartsTV today, Gary Locke reflects on Eggert's departure, plus Stephen Elliott on the challenge of facing Motherwell this weekend.
