Calum Elliot has breathed a huge sigh of relief after learning his latest knee injury is nothing serious.

The striker joined Dundee on a month's loan last week but saw his debut end in agony after he was stretchered off just minutes into Saturday's clash with Raith Rovers at Dens Park.

It was feared the front man, who had been out of action for Hearts for eight months following knee surgery, had suffered another serious injury.

However, after being assessed by the Hearts medical staff at Riccarton this week, no hospital scans were required and his worst fears have proved unfounded with no structural damage to the joint suffered. And he could even make the Dark Blues' weekend clash against Morton!

Speaking exclusively to Hearts News this afternoon, he said: "I was absolutely distraught at the time but thankfully there's nothing seriously wrong.

"For something like that to have happened after being out for so long was really disappointing - I hadn't even touched the ball! But the good news is I will be doing a bit of running tomorrow with a view to rejoining Dundee for training later this week. If selected by the manager, hopefully I can last a bit longer against Morton!

"This will make me a stronger person, that's for sure."

The 24-year-old praised the staff at Dens for their care and attention on Saturday, adding: "I can't thank the people at Dundee enough: the manager, physio, doctor and the players. They were all so supportive. My mum and dad were at the game as well and they made sure they were looked after really well.

"I have also had loads of texts from people and the concern the fans have shown has been really appreciated."
