The Mars 'Just Play' 5-a-side programme at Tynecastle is successfully catering for ten teams and seventy players here on the community pitch at Tynecastle on Wednesday evenings.

The initiative, sponsored by the confectionary giants Mars, is being delivered free of charge for these over 30's 'athletes' and has taken the form of a round robin / league format. The programme is now into its third week.

Teams have been made up of work colleagues, friends, established 5-a-side teams and pub sides to name a few. A lot of thought has been put into naming each team by the players with; Hearts FFIT, Spartacus, Boca Seniors, Heartburn Rovers, AA 2011, Since 1902, Orwell Hearts, Robins Neuk, Gorgie Boys and Still Game all now established and participating in the league.

Hearts Community Manager, Alan White commented "We have had a 100% attendance rate since the start of the programme and despite some intense Wednesday evening heat the guys are performing well.

"When we started the programme we said to the players that these games should be reminiscent of the days when you went up the park or the street with your mates, threw down the jumpers for goalpost and played. The same days when you just played until the lad who whose ball it was went in the huff and took it home. We didn't even give these over 30s teams rules or referees, we have just left it to them to organise and so far all the teams have got on really well and played the game in a great spirit."

The programme will run for another three weeks with the league winners receiving a case of beer and a team photo on Tynecastle.

Here is a photo special of the majority of teams taking part.
