The George Nicolson Memorial Golf Day started well with bright sunshine and even the golfers who got on the wrong train to Linlithgow were anticipating a great day out!

There were ten teams competing and among the golfers were some well known former Hearts players including Donald Ford, Gordon Marshall, Dave McPherson and Alan McLaren, while also enjoying the day was "The voice of Hearts" Scott Wilson.

All of the players met on the first tee for a wee dram of Glengoyne Malt Whisky, one of the sponsors of the day's events.

George's widow Margaret got proceedings under way by driving the first ball of the day.

There were lots of nearly stories and quite a few hard luck tales but in golf the score card tells the whole story and the prizes were as listed below.

Following the golf everyone travelled to the nearby Champany Restaurant where the next challenge was to eat the largest and most delicious steak possible. After the lunch was finished, Hearts assistant manager Billy Brown who was a cousin of George, addressed the group.

The HYDC chairman Calum Robertson and host Ronnie Bamberry then carried out the auction and raffle.

Following the auction, raffle and presentations a few words of thanks were given by George's son Ewan to everyone who attended and especially the work put in by host Ronnie Bamberry in arranging the event. The whole day was arranged by former HYDC committee member Ronnie and the facilities provided by Kingsfield Golf Club http://www.kingsfieldgolf.com/index.html

The event raised approx £1400 for HYDC and was such a success that it will now become an annual event, with next year's golf day booked for Friday, 6 April 2012.
