Heart of Midlothian Education and Community Trust is today celebrating after being shortlisted for two major awards for its AEGON Breakfast Club programme.

The AEGON Breakfast Club is in the final two of the European Sponsorship Awards - Business to Community Category

In reaching this stage the project which aims to provide a free breakfast club for every single primary school in the City of Edinburgh where a need is identified, the programme has beaten off entries from 13 other countries.

"This is a fantastic achievement," said Hearts managing director and Education and Community Trust trustee David Southern.

"The AEGON Breakfast Club Programme is one of the most respected, innovative and dynamic projects that Edinburgh has seen, and even in challenging economic times it continues to grow.

"Enormous credit is due to our partners at AEGON and The City of Edinburgh Council for their shared vision, and to Neil Smith the programme's sponsorship co-ordinator Neil Smith who has put in a power of work to continue to deliver great progress.

"This is another sign of the recognition that our Education and Community Trust is receiving for its incredible work covering sport, music, health, and education."

The European Sponsorship Awards ceremony will take place on the evening of 24th November when the winner will be announced.

The AEGON Breakfast Club has also been shortlisted for another award in the Corporate Social Responsibility category at the HR Network Scotland Awards, which take place on 18th November.
