Hearts boss Jim Jefferies has praised Gary Glen's attitude after the forward blasted two goals in a closed door game at Riccarton.

The striker netted both efforts in the Jambos' 2-0 victory over St Johnstone yesterday, earning plaudits from his manager.

"Gary has had to be patient," JJ told Hearts News. "But he has been looking sharp. He got two goals yesterday and he also scored in our last closed door game. He has to make the most of these opportunities and credit to him.

"It's all about him getting back to full fitness and being patient with Calum and Kevin doing well and Stephen Elliott coming back. If anything happens to them, though, he has to be ready to step in."

Marius Zaliukas also played in yesterday's bounce game, JJ stressing it is important the Lithuanian international builds up his match fitness.

"Yesterday's game was also a good opportunity for Marius to get some game time," added the boss.

"He has been injured for a few weeks and has only recently been back in full training so it's important for him to work on his match fitness."

Andrew Driver has suffered a setback in his injury comeback, the winger picking up a thigh strain in yesterday's match.

He will have a scan to determine the full extent of the problem and Jim said: "He was just pushing himself hard to get back. The problem is a thigh strain and is nothing to do with the previous knee injury which had kept him out.

"It has set him back a wee bit. We're getting him scanned and we'll see how he is after the international break."

The manager, meanwhile, cancelled the players' scheduled day off today to squeeze in an extra training session ahead of the Rangers game this weekend.

After the disappointing defeat to Motherwell, JJ put the squad through its paces at Riccarton as he bids to come up with a formula to tighten up a defence which has been leaking goals in recent weeks.

"The players normally have Wednesday as their day off but I had them in today working hard on a few things," he said.

"We have been hit badly at the back with Marius Zaliukas and Lee Wallace both missing and it's important that we tighten things up. That has been our focus this week."
