Injured Hearts defender Lee Wallace today spoke of his disappointment at missing Scotland's crucial opening Euro 2012 qualifier against Lithuania on Friday.

The left-back was released from Craig Levein's squad this afternoon after having his ankle problem assessed by the national team's medical staff in Glasgow today.

Lee sat out his side's 1-1 draw with Dundee United yesterday and will now return to the Football Academy at Riccarton for further treatment.

He will then be assessed further next weekend with a view to being involved in Scotland's qualifier against Liechtenstein at Hampden Park a week tomorrow.

"I was gutted not to make yesterday's game against United as I had tried my best to be fit for the game," he told Hearts News.

"It's disappointing to miss the Scotland game in Lithuania as you want to play as often as you can for your country and this is a huge game for us being the first of the qualifiers.

"We'll see how the injury responds this week and it goes without saying that I hope to be back involved for Scotland when we play Liechtenstein next week."
