Hearts star Eggert Jonsson insists it's time to re-establish "Fortress Tynecastle" again.

The Jambos' home record was a source of frustration last season as Hearts' finished in sixth place in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

But the Icelandic international knows what an advantage the famous stadium can be and hopes the Edinburgh club's form makes the ground an intimidating venue for visiting teams.

"We feel we should be finishing higher up than last season and hopefully we can show people we are the third best club in Scotland," he said at today's pre-match press conference.

"We are only three games into the season so it's too early to stay but we want to be hard to beat and make Tynecastle a fortress again.

"The team is set up the way the boss wants it to be and hopefully we can make Tynecastle a hard place to come."

Eggert was forced to sit out his side's opening two league games through suspension, returning to scoring action in Tuesday night's 4-0 victory over Elgin City in the Co-operative Insurance Cup

Delighted to be back in the thick of the fray, the versatile Gorgie ace said: "I'm glad to be back as it was hard to sit out the first two games in the league.

"It's good to be in the mix again. We worked hard during the pre-season and then I wasn't able to contribute when the season started so it was difficult."

The Icelander has featured in numerous different positions in maroon, rightly earning a reputation for his versatility.

While admitting his position of choice is the centre of midfield, he admits he is happy to play anywhere.

"I prefer the position of centre midfield and hopefully I can cement myself there," he added. "But if the team needs me somewhere else then I'm happy to play."

On Hearts.TV today, Eggert meets the media, plus Jim Jefferies' pre-match press conference IN FULL.
