Hearts right to stand firm - JJ
Jim Jefferies today insisted Hearts are absolutely right to stand firm in its valuation of Andrew Driver.
The winger has been the subject of much speculation about his future over the summer, but no move has come about after Burnley failed to match the club's price.
Of course the Tynecastle boss knows that everyone has their value, and that price may yet be met by another club, but he's delighted that as it stands Andrew will be part of his plans for the new season.
In an exclusive interview on day one of pre-season training with Hearts.TV JJ said: "The club have got a value on him and like a lot of players you have to understand that when they are under contract.
"They did not offer what the club was looking for so the one good thing to come out for it is that he's here and he's a top player. We're delighted to have him.
"There's competition or places which is great in the fact that there's Templeton and Novikovas keeping him on his toes so that will be good.
"If he misses the season I hope it will just be the start."
The fact Hearts were strong in their approach with regards to the compensation they felt was commensurate with Andrew's ability was pleasing for the Gorgie chief, particularly in an ongoing challenging financial climate in the UK.
"Some clubs in the present stage of football have to go and sell players for less than they are worth because they are struggling but if we're not under such a situation and we've got a value for the player then we'll claim the right to redeem that money," he said.
"Hibs did it with a lot of players recently and got a lot of benefits so if the price is right every player in Scotland is available at the price was not right.
"Andrew is committed to seeing out his contract and competing but obviously playing well for Hearts he'll attract bigger clubs than Burnley."
