Hearts legend John Cumming is to have a sports arena named after him in his home town of Carluke.

Nicknamed "The Iron Man" during his glorious Tynecastle career - he won two league championships, a Scottish Cup and four league cups with the Jambos - Cumming is the finest footballer ever to have been produced by the town.

He passed away in December 2008 but now his name will live on with the naming of the new £3.5million sports stadium, much to the delight of his family.

"We could not think of a better memorial for him," said nephew Andrew.

"His happiest moments in life came from playing football and helping the local community."

His widow Jane added: "Having the sports arena named after John is a tremendous honour and I'm over the moon about it."
