Hearts stopper Dawid Kucharski today highlighted the role which vice-captain Marius Zaliukas has played in restoring his confidence.

The pair have teamed up well in the centre of defence in recent weeks and while the Polish star admits to 'feeling much better' now that Jim Jefferies is in charge, he was also quick to praise the contribution of his Lithuanian team-mate.

Dawid indicated he had been suffering from a lack of confidence under former boss Csaba Laszlo but his rehabilitation appears well underway, as he explained to the media at today's pre-match press conference at Riccarton.

"The new manager trusts me and I feel much better," he said.

"When I do something wrong in training he doesn't say I'm a bad player, he just encourages and says next time I will do better.

"I have started the last few games and I just want to play for the team. I feel good and much stronger. The training is good but a little bit harder. We play small games, always with the ball and it is very good.

"Marius Zaliukas has also been a big help. When we play together I am always listening to what he says to me. He has been good for me."

As JJ prepares to take his team to Pittodrie for a crucial clash against Aberdeen, the defender knows the focus must be on securing a top six slot this season.

"It is very important that we aim for the top six," he said.

"We don't play in the cup so must fight for the top six and a good position at the end of the season."
