Hearts Legends, the team featuring some of Hearts great players from previous seasons, is celebrating after raising more than £25,000 for charities since its formation in May 2008.

The Legends team, which is unbeaten in over 30 games, is now hoping to raise even more funds for good causes by taking up invitations to play from local businesses and sporting organisations across the country.

The team is captained by Jimmy Sandison and in the last year has featured Hearts favourites such as Gary Mackay, Henry Smith, Alan McLaren, Walter Kidd, Jose Quitongo, Darren Jackson, Scott Crabbe and John Robertson.

Opponents have included workforce and amateur teams from Clydesdale Bank, Bank of Scotland, Adam Smith College, Stewartfield AFC, Elgin Star, Scottish Gas, VION HALLS, Spartans and Business Stream.

Some of the worthwhile causes the team has helped raise money for include Sick Kids, CHAS, CCLASP, Marie Curie, Teenage Cancer Trust, East Neuk Wheelchair Appeal, Donaldsons School for the Deaf, the Fire Fighters Charity and the Heart of Midlothian Education and Community Trust.

Alan White, programme manager for the Heart of Midlothian Education and Community Trust, said: "The Hearts Legends team has been a great success.

"The players really enjoy the games and they're always on the look out for teams to play against. Ideally it's the over 30's variety of matches we're interested in and I'd be delighted to hear from anyone that fancies taking on some of the biggest names - and waistlines - in the club's history!"

"We've had some great fun in the games, scored a few crackers but most importantly we've raised money for the Heart of Midlothian Education and Community Trust and a host of other charities."
