Ian Black last night insisted he's got much more to give after the midfielder's starring role in Saturday's win over Falkirk at Tynecastle.

The former Inverness man turned in a super performance as Hearts secured a 3-2 win over Falkirk.

His stunning 25-yard left-foot thunderbolt proved to be the winner as Hearts dusted down their attacking instincts and went for it against the Bairns.

Noting Jim Jefferies' earlier comments that he wants Ian Black to be 'Ian Black', rather than an adapted version, as had perhaps been the case in recent months, the 24-year-old stressed his own standards are set high.

"I still think I have a lot more to come," he said. "I just want to keep him [the manager] happy and work hard.

"I have to criticise myself sometimes. I feel I have a lot more to give and I am just gradually getting more confident.

"I had a good look at myself. With a new manager coming in, I knew him from the past. I was relishing the chance to work with him.

"He likes me and he's given me an opportunity. He's build me up and I am enjoying it. I knew I was not playing my best but I seem to be kicking on now."

On the win itself, Ian recognised the significance of the result and performance.

"The get the three points was the most important thing," he continued. "For the gaffer being his first game at home, and getting a win was brilliant.

"You could see that at the end with the emotion that the gaffer and Billy had was brilliant.

"It was a big change but we're in there to do a job. Everyone sees us enjoying it. The gaffer stands back and lets us enjoy it. Obviously if you need a boot up the backside then you get it. Everyone is enjoying it and it showed."

And on the impact of first team coach Gary Locke, Ian admitted that he's a perfect link between the manager and assistant boss Billy Brown.

"Lockie is a good guy," Ian said. "He has the banter with the boys and the boys like him. He's a bit of a joker and it is good to have him in the dressing room."
