We conclude our terrific series with new boss Jim Jefferies looking back on his favourite Tynecastle games as he prepares to return to Gorgie as manager once more, today.

The final game of choice is a European classic, coming just a couple of months before JJ left Tynecastle for what would be a 3388 day hiatus. It's a good one though, a really good one!

Heart of Midlothian v VfB Stuttgart - Matchday Programme

28 September 2000
UEFA Cup, second round, second leg
Hearts 3 (Pressley, Petric, Cameron pen), VfB Stuttgart 2

"Stuttgart were a top side in Germany when we played them and it took a great free-kick to beat us in the first leg. We had our chances in that game to get an away goal and it was another good performance from the team.

"When we got them back to Tynecastle we knew they didn't like dealing balls pumped into the box. We changed tactics early in the game and put Kevin James up front. They weren't handling the balls into the box well. It was a very open game and we could have won it comfortably but with our efforts to push forward and make it a great game we left ourselves exposed.

"They got a couple of goals but we had a fantastic opportunity in injury time through Gordan Petric to win it. The ball sat up nice for him and he was normally a good striker off the ball, he caught it sweetly but it just shaved the crossbar. That was the chance we had all been hoping for in the last few minutes but just didn't take it.

"It was a fantastic game with thrills galore and they were a relieved team to hear the final whistle after having two men sent off. Their manager Ralf Rangnick told me afterwards they were lucky to get through."

Jim Jefferies needn't be the only Hearts hero returning home this Saturday when Falkirk visit Tynecastle (kick-off 3pm).
