HNT: Suso - I'm innocent!
Hearts star Suso today hit back at allegations of spitting at an opponent, claiming: "That is just not my style."
The Spaniard is at the centre of a row following a touchline flashpoint with St Johnstone's Danny Grainger during yesterday's enthralling 2-2 draw at McDiarmid Park.
While admitting he caught the Saints ace with a spit, he stressed it was completely accidental - and that Grainger had accepted his immediate apology.
Speaking to Hearts News Today in a bid to clarify the issue, the winger said: "I do not spit at opponents. That is not my style as I respect all my fellow professionals.
"What happened yesterday was that when I turned my head away to spit, the St Johnstone player moved to get the ball and I caught him on his back.
"I saw right away what had happened and quickly cleaned up the back of his shirt, apologised to him, he accepted it right away and we shook hands. He knew it was an accident.
"I am sure if he thought I had done it deliberately, he would have reacted far differently."
Reflecting on yesterday's incident, Suso admitted he is still upset by what happened.
"Of course I am upset, as I don't do this sort of thing. I have never been accused of this before in my career," he added.
"What happened has been blown out of proportion and it's upsetting."
