Dinamo destroy Hearts in Zagreb |
The Croatian champions turned on the style and ran out 4-0 winners in this first leg of the Europa League play-offs, with Croatian international Mario Mandzukic controlling a lot of the play.
It was a bad start for the Jambos as they found themselves a goal behind inside the first five minutes of the match. Sammir rampaged down the left hand side and played an inch perfect ball into the back post where Croatian international Mario Mandzukic headed the ball home from close range.
Hearts were finding it difficult to cope with the pace of Dinamo on all areas of the pitch and almost made it two after 22 minutes when a sublime shot from Pedro Morales dipped just under goal and fortunately for Hearts rattled off the top of the bar.
Dinamo did make it two soon after when Mandzukic, who seemed to be everywhere, played in a cross to Badelj. Badelj's shot was saved well by Kello, but the rebound landed right in the path of Papadopoulos who netted with ease.
The break saw Hearts introduce Ian Black into the match and you could instantly see a difference in Hearts play. Some goo link up play between Black and Jonsson carved out an opening for Suso to shoot but Butina was on hand to turn the ball out for a corner.
After starting brightly it all faded away with Dinamo's third of the evening. Ivica Vrdoljak sent a curling effort high into the right hand corner and past Kello, who could not have stopped it.
Soon after Zagreb had their fourth and this time it was courtesy of their captain and former Liverpool man Igor Biscan. The corner was sent in and Biscan headed home from a matter of yards out.
Hearts introduced Novikovas and Glen and both performed well in the time they were on the field, but unfortunately there was no way past this very strong Zagreb team for Hearts and while there is still the return leg at Tynecastle to come, it was a night to forget for the Jambos.
