Heart of Midlothian Football Club is delighted to today (Tuesday 11th August 2009) announce the launch of Heart of Midlothian Women's Football Club.

As a fully affiliated part of Edinburgh's oldest club, the women's division will play in Scottish Women's Football First Division next season, after securing the Division Two title as Musselburgh Windsor Ladies Football Club last season.

Heart of Midlothian Women's Football Club will also, from next spring at the start of the new summer youth football season, operate at U17, U15 and U13 level providing a recognised pathway towards first team football.

Hearts managing director Campbell Ogilvie said, "We are delighted to welcome the new women's division into the club. This announcement today comes after 18 months of work to identify the best possible group to license the Hearts brand to and go into partnership with.

"Our team at Tynecastle have no doubt whatsoever that the team behind the new Hearts Women's team are the right people to develop this project.

"The work they undertook at Musselburgh Windsor Ladies was extremely impressive. They are passionate about the women's game and, crucially, its development.

"And very importantly, they are ambitious to make the Scottish Women's Premier League and we have no doubt that they have the ability, determination and vision to do so."

Hearts Women head coach Tam Milne said, "We are absolutely honoured to have joined one of the UK's most famous football clubs.

"This opportunity will allow us to grow our club, develop women's football and help us in our aim of becoming one of Scotland's very best women's teams.

"We look forward to working with Hearts, learning from their expertise in a sporting, marketing, commercial and administrative sense, and developing a women's division that every Hearts supporter can be proud of."

The women's team will wear the Hearts shirt and training kit, retaining their own sponsorship and commercial agreements.
