New signing Suso Santana had to sit patiently for six months to join Hearts - but he's convinced the wait will prove worthwhile.

The 24-year-old was unveiled to the media at a Press conference at Tynecastle yesterday and he revealed he knew of the club's interest as far back as December.

His patience paid off with a three-year contract and the former Tenerife star can't wait to savour the challenge of the Scottish top flight.

"Until two weeks there was nothing concrete but I am delighted to be here after first hearing about the club's interest back in December," he said through an interpreter.

"It was an important decision for me to leave Spain but not a difficult one.

"I was always pretty calm about things as my representative was keeping me in touch and there was no rush due to my situation. It is good to be here at Tynecastle. I have heard a lot of good things about the coach and I'm looking forward to playing for Hearts."

The attacking midfielder has been well briefed about the challenge facing him in the top flight and he's ready to meet it head on.

"I know the game in this country is very physical and I know I will have to learn quickly," he said.

"Football is football, though, and the physical side of things doesn't bother me a big deal.

"My main objective is to work as hard as I can and bring success to the club.

"I would like to help Hearts qualify for Europe again next season but it is difficult to talk about that just now as the league hasn't even started yet. All I can do is work as hard as possible to help the team finish as high as possible."

Asked what type of player the fans can expect to see this season, Suso smiled: "I like to go one on one with my opponent, take him on and beat him. That is the fun bit of football.

"Hopefully the goals will come as well. That is my aim and what I will be working hard to do."
