Don't rely on reputations: Csaba
Hearts boss Csaba Laszlo today told his players that last season's heroics will count for nothing when it comes to staking a claim for a place in the team for the new campaign.
The first-team squad are due back on the training ground for the first time tomorrow and the Tynecastle manager insists this is a new beginning for everyone.
With the likes Robbie Neilson, Bruno Aguiar, Christos Karipidis, Saulius Mikoliunas and Deividas Cesnauskis all having left the club, places are up for grabs as Csaba plans for the forthcoming league challenge and UEFA Europa League play-off.
Reputations, though, will count for little as the boss bids to come up with another winning formula.
"Next season will be a new team and new chances for everybody," he told Hearts News.
The upcoming tour to Germany will see Hearts cram in four matches in the space of six days, giving the manager ample opportunity to assess the players after their summer lay-off.
"At this moment everybody gets their chance and if they use it, they keep their place in the team," he said.
"That is how football works. You give someone the opportunity and it is up to them to take it. Then we go from there."
Csaba is looking forward to getting back on the training ground at Riccarton.
"The players have a lot of tests to do but they will also get outside and train as well," he said.
"That is what they enjoy and it is important we start working hard together now. We have an important season coming up and we must make sure we are ready.
"We leave for Germany on Monday and then play four games. This will give the players a chance to build up their stamina and get a feel for the football again."
