Csaba ponders over new skipper
Hearts boss Csaba Laszlo today revealed he is in no rush to appoint a new captain for the forthcoming season.
Having seen Christophe Berra's successor Robbie Neilson depart Tynecastle to pursue his career in England with Leicester City at the end of last season, Csaba will have a new skipper in place by the time the Jambos kick off their Clydesdale Bank Premier League campaign at Tannadice on Saturday, August 15.
The manager told Hearts News this afternoon that he has a couple of candidates in mind to succeed Robbie. However, he will not be making a permanent appointment until he has had time to assess his options during the upcoming training camp in Germany.
The squad heads to its base in Lower Saxony on Monday, July 6 for six days and will take on Goslar SC 08, St Pauli, Slask Wroclaw and Alemannia Aachen in a busy programme of matches.
Csaba will use those first tour games to begin firming up in his own mind the most suitable person for the armband.
"There will be somebody new who wears the armband next season, that is certain," he said.
"I have a couple of candidates in mind but there is no hurry to name a captain just now.
"We have games coming up in Germany and it is important to look at the attitude and mentality of the players during those matches.
"After that at some point a decision can be made."
Csaba added: "The role of the captain is an important one at any football club and I will think carefully before making any decision."
The Tynecastle chief, meanwhile, went on to reassure supporters that work to bolster the first-team squad is 'ongoing'.
Former Invernes Caledonian Thistle midfielder Ian Black has already penned a three-year deal and Csaba is hopeful of seeing further new faces arrive over the coming weeks.
"We are working hard together to identify and try to bring in new players," he said. "Ideally we will have key positions filled for the matches in Germany.
"Ian Black has signed and Jose Goncalves is coming back from his loan. Maybe we can have more."
