I must take my chance - Jamie
Jamie Mole knows he must take his chance next season - having admitted today that he did not realise the magnitude of the opportunity he's already had at Hearts.
As a teenager the Newcastle-born forward started against AEK Athens in a Champions League qualifier in Greece - and had a wonderful chance to score.
Things did not go as he would have liked after that, and Jamie ended up on loan at Dunfermline last season having scored just one goal - a belter against St Mirren - for Csaba Laszlo's Europa League entrants.
"I don't really know what happened," Jamie said at Musselburgh Racecourse today where he was promoting the Hearts Family Race Day on 19th July. "I have got to take next season as a make or break season and take my chance.
"When I was playing [against AEK Athens] Tam Ritchie came in and said I was starting. I did not think anything of it but now I know how big it was and how big an experience it was."
Back at Tynecastle last season following a loan spell at Queen of the South, Jamie impressed with his work-rate but could not find the goals, eventually losing his place to Christian Nade.
"I only scored one goal so it was my fault I lost my place in the team," he acknowledged of the decision to send him to Dunfermline. "I have to look at it like that.
"Of the last couple of years Hearts have not had a 10, 15 or 20 goal-a-season striker. Obviously the manager will look at it and try and get the best strikers possible. Hopefully I can be in his plans."
One player who he can look to for inspiration is Calum Elliot, who bounced back to win over the Hearts supporters with some fine displays in the closing weeks of last season.
"He went to Livingston, played 15 or 16 games and scored twelve or 13 goals so you cannot get much better than that," Jamie said.
"He came back and won the crowd over. Csaba gave him his chance and he took it and scored a couple of goals. I've got to look up to him."
