Hearts legends deposit eight against RBS
Hearts Legends 8-3 RBS Edinburgh
The Hearts Legends continued their long unbeaten run at the Hearts Football Academy on Sunday with a comfortable victory over a plucky RBS select in yet another fund-raising charity match.
The crowd of around 150 were treated to an entertaining and keenly fought contest with the Legends showing that the pace might be slowing but the skills never desert them as Mackay and Sandison took a grip of midfield.
There was a major shock after ten minutes as RBS took a surprise lead through Chris Moffat. At the other end, Jimmy Sandison was thwarted by a spectacular save from goalkeeper Andrew-Henry Bowie as RBS held on. The visitors lead though, was not to last as The Legends began a devastating siege on the RBS goal and by half time, they had a four goal lead which included strikes from Gary Mackay and Alan Lawrence.
The second half was a more evenly matched as RBS got a goal back through Chris Moffat. There was further hope for the visitors when Jamieson scored a penalty after Alan McLaren was alleged to have fouled in the box. The Legends then moved up a gear to score three more goals and see out the match comfortably with Jose Quitongo in particular, showing his full range of skills.
There was double heart-ache for the visitors near the end as young RBS defender Andy Patton suffered a broken arm. The challenge on him resulted in a penalty but RBS player-manager Gavin Teesdale's effort was saved by Henry Smith. It was handshakes and photos all round though at the final whistle.
The Hearts legends would like to thank Gavin Teesdale and his team for arranging the match which raised £1600 for charity.
