HNT: Tynie can be a real weapon for us.
Captain Robbie Neilson today admitted the prospect of hosting European games at Tynecastle next season gives Hearts an added incentive to qualify for the Europa League.
The Edinburgh club announced earlier this week that European ties will return to Gorgie after an absence of six years should the Jambos secure participation on the big stage.
And skipper Robbie, the sole survivor of Hearts' last foray into Europe at Tynecastle when Bordeaux visited the Capital in November 2003, welcomed the development enthusiastically.
"It's great news for the club, the fans and the players and I'm delighted," he told Hearts.TV.
"It really is something to look forward to if we can qualify for Europe. They are special nights against Continental opposition under the floodlights at Tynecastle and they are occasions you always remember as a player.
"I remember the last time we had a European game here against Bordeaux and although we lost the match after a great victory in France, it was a great experience.
"Tynecastle is like night and day compared to Murrayfield. Teams no doubt enjoyed the big pitch at Murrayfield but Tynecastle is quite different and can affect even the best visiting teams."
The captain acknowledged that a lot of work lies ahead before European football is assured next season, Hearts boasting a five-point lead over their nearest rivals with five matches remaining.
"Tynecastle can be a real weapon for us and it's a big bonus to have it available again," he said.
"But we are not thinking it's job done yet and will not take our foot off the pedal. We have five big games lest and have to win as many of them as we can."
On Hearts.TV today, Robbie's full exclusive interview plus Eggert Jonsson looks ahead to next season.
