Goalkeeper Janos Balogh today stressed that the Hearts squad is focused on completing a successful season with a third-place finish in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

Last weekend's victory over Kilmarnock saw Csaba Laszlo's side storm seven points clear of nearest rivals Dundee United and Aberdeen in the race for Europe.

Although fourth place in the SPL will still be good enough for European qualification, the Gorgie shot-stopper says the Jambos' are determined to use the next seven games to claim third spot outright.

"It maybe wasn't the best football against Kilmarnock at times but it was a good victory," Janos said.

"Third place is the target for us and that's where we want to finish the season as we want to play in Europe."

With Jamie MacDonald having recently signed a new three-year contract, the Hungarian knows he faces stiff competition for the gloves at Tynecastle. However, Janos believes that can only be a good thing.

Speaking to Hearts.TV, he said: "We all want to be No. 1 goalkeeper. We have good keepers at Hearts and I think we need that. It is important if we want to do well and qualify for Europe.

"We are a strong team and can play well against Celtic this weekend. We want to beat them and will be doing our best."

Meanwhile, Gary Glen suffered a painful ankle knock in yesterday's 5-0 triumph over Hamilton in the SPL Reserve League and is doubtful for the weekend.

Jason Thomson, though, has recovered from his hamstring injury and returned to full training yesterday.
