Hearts starlet Scott Robinson was one of Scotland's success as Ross Mathie's U17s went down to host nation Austria in the UEFA U17 European Championships Elite Round Group clash.

The highly-rated Tynecastle striker, who was starting his third game in a row in the tournament, helped the Scots get off to a bright start as the visitors created early opportunities in the Stegersbach Stadium last night.

However, two goals from Marco Djuricin before the break consigned the young lions to elimination after a third successive defeat following reverses to group winners Italy and Georgia.

Coach Mathie said: "Although the results have been disappointing our performances, particularly against group winners Italy, have been satisfying in spells.

"For me, the biggest disappointment is the way we have conceded goals. In the 20 matches that this age level have played we have done well defensively, but at this elite level your defending must be outstanding.

"Italy are an excellent side and deserve to qualify for the Finals. It has been a great experience for everyone in our squad and hopefully it will benefit the players in their future footballing careers."

Scott became the youngest ever Hearts player when he came off the bench  against Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Tynecastle last season.
