Former Hearts captain Christophe Berra today admitted he couldn't turn down the chance to join Coca-Cola Championship leaders Wolves.

The formalities to the deal taking the 24-year-old to Molineux were completed this morning and the Scotland international could make his debut tomorrow night when Mick McCarthy's side takes on Norwich City.

Talking exclusively to Hearts News minutes after the finishing touches were applied to his four-and-a-half year contract, the Scotland international said he believed the move was the right one for him to make at this stage of his career.

"I have never hidden my ambition to play at the highest level possible," said the centre-half, who has been handed squad number 16.

"Wolves are a big club and are in a good position to get into the Premiership, which is one of the strongest leagues in the world.

"It is an exciting challenge for me and one I'm really looking forward to. I am still young and ambitious and want to keep improving.

"It was an honour and a privilege to captain Hearts and I will be leaving a lot of friends behind I'd like to wish the club, players, coaching staff and the supporters nothing but the best.

"The fans have given the team great backing over the past few seasons and hopefully they have plenty to cheer about during the remainder of the season. It would be great to see them get a good cup run and make it into Europe."

Christophe flew south on Saturday - his 24th birthday - to watch Wolves defeat Watford before undergoing a medical. He was due to train today with his new team-mates for the first time but heavy snow in the Midlands saw the session cancelled.

"It all happened very quickly late on Friday afternoon," he said. "I went down on Saturday so therefore had to miss the Hamilton match. I was disappointed to see Hearts lose the game but hopefully the lads can bounce back with a good result against Falkirk in the Scottish Cup this weekend.

"We have a game tomorrow night against Norwich but I don't know if I'll be involved or not."
